A Fresh Classic Townhouse

By Orla Read

The previous owners of this four bedroom Victorian townhouse had lived there for over half a century and had left the interior largely untouched. The new owners decided it was time to modernise and tasked interior designer, Orla Read, with giving the property a fresh new look that retained a classic, timeless feel.

Dramatic and imposing, two large Dalby showers are set against a striking green and white striped background, forming the focal point of the room. Orla explains that ‘adding stripes is a great way to introduce a playful element without overwhelming the space.’ The rustic, warmth of the Antique Brass finish coordinates perfectly with the emerald green of the hand-painted Balineum tiles.

Drummonds cast-iron Swale bath fulfils the owners’ calls for a classic, elegant scheme whilst its ‘Poryphyry Pink’ Farrow & Ball painted finish ties in with the other colourful, contemporary design elements within the room. Facing the shower area, the Double Taw Vanity features a rich Verde Guatemala marble top, echoing the green tiles directly opposite.
