The Ultimate Lakeside Retreat

Designed by Nina Farmer Interiors and Charles R. Myer & Partners

Blending into the eastern shoreline of a serene lake in New Hampshire, this newly built home embodies the timeless charm of the region’s classic ‘camp’ style. Designed by Charles R. Myer & Partners and completed in 2024, the residence harmonises effortlessly with its natural surroundings. Its wood-shingle exterior and locally sourced New England fieldstone, which graces grand fireplaces and a cosy screened porch, reflect the area’s rich craftsmanship. The owners envisioned a home that could host large family gatherings while maintaining a sense of warmth and intimacy.

Complemented by a barn and small outbuildings, this new build provided Nina Farmer Interiors the opportunity to craft a cohesive aesthetic from the ground up. The vision was clear: a home rooted in traditional craftsmanship, using locally sourced pine and oak for floors, walls, ceilings and custom cabinetry. Throughout the house, living finishes were carefully selected to develop a natural patina over time, enhancing the home’s character and history.

In keeping with the home’s overarching design philosophy, the bathrooms were conceived as warm, grounded spaces that exude quiet elegance. The primary bathroom features a palette of earthy tones and tactile materials, carefully chosen to evoke a sense of calm and natural beauty. Greens from Farrow & Ball provide a refreshing contrast to the warmth of the wood, a colour scheme that extends throughout the home to ensure a seamless flow between spaces.

To maintain the refined yet unfussy aesthetic of the home, the designers selected Drummonds’ Swale bathtub, paired with the Bestwood floor standing bath & shower mixer, basin taps and shower fixtures in the primary bathroom. The classic lever handles and well-proportioned fittings lend an air of understated sophistication, ensuring that every element of the bathroom feels thoughtfully curated rather than overly ornate. Unlacquered brass was chosen for its ability to develop a living patina over time, reinforcing the home’s emphasis on natural ageing and authenticity.

Drummonds’ fixtures proved to be the perfect fit for this project, offering a balance of timeless design and expert craftsmanship. Designed to last a lifetime, they will only become more beautiful with use – just like the house itself. Every material, finish and detail was carefully considered to create a home that feels effortlessly rooted in its surroundings, as if it has always belonged by the lake’s edge.
