Lord Shaftesbury's St Giles House

Built in 1651, the Grade I Listed St Giles House is one of Britain’s great architectural treasures and home to the Earl of Shaftesbury. The Twelfth Earl, Nick Ashley-Cooper, inherited the virtually derelict house in 2005 and has gradually restored it in a style he describes as “harmonious”, choosing products which he says, “sit right and are there to last.”

This describes Drummonds’ classic bathroomware. Handmade using traditional methods, our collections are as much at home in contemporary settings as in stately homes.

The size and splendour of the rooms at St Giles House allows for bathrooms on a grand scale. In one of the main bathrooms, Drummonds Usk roll top cast iron bath was chosen for its classic bateau style and with a bespoke copper finish, it’s a real eye-catching feature. Retaining its elegance across the centuries, the bateau bath style is a shape that fits perfectly into traditional or contemporary bathroom schemes making it ideal for St Giles House.

Finishing the look, the single Lowther vanity with black marquina marble perfectly complements the antique brass finish of the basin stand and the Mull classic taps.

Also included in the restoration; the seventeenth century stables were completely transformed to accommodate eight bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. Nick specified Drummonds’ products, opting for some of our most striking designs. Completely glass-enclosed, the freestanding Spittal shower in an antique brass finish forms an impressive centrepiece in several of the ensuite bathrooms whilst the Spey with ball and claw feet, Drummonds most spacious bath, adds a classic touch throughout the rooms.
