50 Years of the British Institute of Interior Design

The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) is celebrating its 50 year anniversary this year, an important occasion to mark in the progression of the profession, which has gone from strength to strength in the past 5 decades.

From their founding in 1965, as the Interior Decorators and Designers Association (IDDA), creativity, originality, and talent have been encouraged and nurtured by the institute, which has advanced not only the ingenuity and flair of designers but also their competence as industry professionals.

By ensuring their members are trained to the highest of professional standards in their design processes and practices, they have set the bar within the industry, leading a desire among design professionals to strive for the very best for their own practices and their clients. The BIID also make sure their members continue with their professional development throughout their careers, ensuring that they are always at the cutting edge of the profession.

In 2009, the BIID was the first (and still only) professional organisation for interior designers to be granted the prestigious and rare accolade of Institute status by the Minister of State.
We have long recognised the benefits of working with BIID approved designers.
