For interior designers and interior design lovers in London, September rimes with London Design Festival, one of the largest and most innovative design event of the year. For its 16th edition, the festival brings the finest designers out of their studios to display their latest creations and celebrate London as the design capital of the world. Make sure to remember the dates (15th to 23rd September) and to plan ahead thanks to our selection of the best events to attend.

The London Design Festival at the V&A, 15-23 September

As the Festival hub, the V&A houses a diverse range of exceptional installations and displays encouraging the public to “engage” with them and aimed at attracting a “wider, younger and more diverse audience”. For example, Composet Arvo Pärt and Arup present “Memory & Light”, curated by Clare Farrow, in the V&A’s Norfolk House Music Room: a unique meeting of music and design, inspired by Arvo Pärt’s words.

London Design Fair, 20-23 September, Shoreditch

Situated in the creative heart of East London, the fair is a four-day industry international event and will be hosting 10 country pavilions including Sweden and Japan.

London Design Biennale, 4-23 September, Somerset House

Coinciding at the same time as London Design Festival is the London Design Biennale, an independent production from the founders of London Design Festival which brings an international element to London. London Design Biennale builds on the success of its inaugural edition in 2016 and returns to Somerset House with more than 40 participating countries from six continents – each exhibiting ideas, artworks and installations on the theme ‘Emotional States’. An exploration on big problematics about sustainability, migration, pollution, energy, cities, and social equality.

Open house, 22-23 September

In parallel to London Design Festival is Open House London, which constitutes the world’s largest architecture festival, giving free public access to more than 800 buildings, walks, talks and tours over one weekend. There are more than 180 new buildings to see this year and these include the new U.S. Embassy and the Royal Opera House…!
