Coton House

A Sense of Place, A Story in Stone

Designed by architect Samuel Wyatt in 1787, this Georgian country house has borne witness to centuries of transformation. Originally part of a monastic estate, Coton House is now one of Warwickshire’s finest private residences and an inspiring example of eighteenth-century architecture. Following a catastrophic fire in 2010, the house underwent an extensive and painstaking restoration, ensuring its return to the splendour it once knew.

Upon acquiring the property from a developer, the current owner felt the interiors had been unsympathetically modernised with contemporary finishes, particularly in the bathrooms. Plain grey tiles and standard plastic fixtures had stripped the spaces of their historical character. The goal was clear: to reinstate a sense of Georgian authenticity while maintaining the luxury and functionality expected of a modern home.

Drummonds’ fixtures became a natural choice for this transformation, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with enduring quality. The centrepiece of the master ensuite is the Spittal freestanding shower – an elegant piece inspired by Edwardian design. Encased in glass, it allows the beauty of the book-matched marble walls to remain undisturbed. The selection of brassware was equally considered, chosen to complement the deep, organic tones of the marble and to create a harmonious flow throughout the home.

Every detail of the bathrooms was meticulously curated. Hand-selected marble, sourced from Italy, was book-matched to achieve a seamless, opulent effect. Wallpapers from Cole & Son, Versace and Zoffany were carefully picked to evoke a sense of place, while paint colours from The Little Greene Company and Farrow & Ball were selected to complement the natural tones of the stone.

For the owner of Coton House, Drummonds has long been synonymous with unparalleled quality and craftsmanship. Having purchased their first piece from the brand 15 years ago, their admiration for its commitment to design excellence has only deepened over time.

“Drummonds’ designs are unmatched in quality and finishing. Each piece feels like a work of art, crafted to stand the test of time,” the owner shares. “The freestanding shower, in particular, encapsulates everything I wanted for the house – elegance, refinement and a seamless connection to the surrounding interiors.”

Beyond its bathrooms, Coton House remains a living piece of history. The grandeur of the oval entrance hall, with its towering Georgian windows and sparkling chandelier, sets the tone for the entire residence. Here, a piano takes pride of place, a symbolic centrepiece that greets guests with the same grace and charm that defines the home.

For the owner, the true beauty of Coton House lies not just in its architecture or design, but in its enduring legacy. “I love knowing that so many people have passed through these walls over the centuries. Now, I’ve added my own touch to its story, ensuring that its elegance remains intact for future generations to appreciate.”

With its carefully considered renovation, Coton House stands as a beacon of timeless refinement – a perfect marriage of heritage and contemporary luxury.
