Drummonds x Nicola Harding

Grand Union

Drummonds has unveiled its first collaboration with Nicola Harding with the launch of the Grand Union collection at WOW!House 2025, comprising of three vanity basin cabinets and a side table.

Taking its name from the historic waterway that links London to Central England, Grand Union designed by Nicola Harding introduces cabinet storage to the Drummonds family of vanity basins. Handmade cabinetry is combined with fine Italian marble and custom brassware from the Drummonds foundry.

Curved corners and a stepped profile, characteristic of Art Deco, are paired with the simple robust cabinetry that underpinned the Arts & Crafts revival in the final years of the Edwardian era. The result is a collection that feels true to the 1920s yet sits confidently within both traditional and contemporary interiors, offering generous proportions and thoughtfully designed storage. Nicola comments, “I like it when it’s hard to pinpoint the exact period of a room and I prefer to mix elements from different eras. If an interior is not tied to a particular moment, it has a more layered story and is less likely to date.”

The Grand Union Single and Double Vanity includes generous drawer storage and a uniquely carved marble top and backsplash. The Grand Union Syre Vanity has been specially designed by Nicola to fit Drummond’s classic Syre basin, authentically re-editioned from the antique fittings in which the company first traded.

A staple of Edwardian design, the Syre would have been most-often wall-mounted. This cabinet version combines generous cupboard storage with a compact footprint ideal for smaller bathrooms and WCs. Finally, inspired by the luxurious idea of taking a cocktail or favourite book to the bath, the Grand Union Side Table can of course be used anywhere in the home to carry soaps, books, a drink or a house plant. The solid brass base is hand-cast at the Drummonds foundry and provides excellent stability.

The collection’s brassware is available in nine finishes and reflects the unique craftsmanship at Drummonds. Drummonds’ MD and Creative Director James Lentaigne comments “Our artisans have been with us for nearly thirty years and we are starting to see second generations from the same families continuing our skills, which is wonderful.

Drummonds is unique in having three foundries in one facility – cast-iron, brass and ceramic – each combining traditional hand-skills with cutting edge techniques and setting a world standard for quality and longevity. Our capabilities with brass and ceramic have been instrumental in bringing this collection to life, with ancient lost-wax sculpting techniques to create the unique handle forms, and kiln-fired English clay china for the basins. The resulting surface textures give a depth and authenticity to each piece.”

Alongside its own artisans, Drummonds has worked with fine cabinet makers and a renowned marble quarry in northern Italy to source the cabinet base. Bespoke paint can be specified for the interior and exterior of each cabinet and Nicola has curated a palette to launch the collection, combining depth and subtlety. She comments, “Colour is like a magic toolbox, it so easily transforms the way we experience a space. Our painted wood finishes give an opportunity to punctuate a bathroom with colour and a satisfying interaction with the marble and brass alongside them.”

To complement the materials and silhouettes in the Grand Union collection, Nicola has curated a considered palette of cabinet colours that bring subtle character and visual interest to the bathroom. The launch range includes three exterior finishes and two interior shades, from the soft intrigue of Post Modern Mauve to the quiet richness of Forest Grey. Each has been chosen to enhance the natural beauty of the marble and brass, while adding a layer of personality to the cabinetry.

For those seeking complete creative freedom, the cabinets can also be painted in any colour of your choosing from Farrow & Ball offering a truly bespoke solution tailored to your interior scheme.
