Grade II Listed Country House

Suffolk

This spacious Grade II listed country house in Suffolk was originally three farmers’ cottages dating from the 1530s. Now a five-bedroom family home, the building has charming hallmarks of each century from Victorian brickwork to cottage-style leaded windows from the 1930s. However, its Elizabethan heritage remains at its heart as evidenced by spectacular brick hearths and ornate carved wooden beams.

Pursuing busy careers in London, the owners sought to create a restful retreat to entertain family and friends; a goal which they have certainly achieved with a full renovation. No space is more inviting than the guest wing with a generous vaulted bathroom.

Once a sixth bedroom, it had been converted to a bathroom decades ago but looked tired and unsympathetic to the age and character of the property. The tiled mural creates an immediate “wow” factor, tempered by calming greens and unlacquered brassware for a luxurious accent, thoughtfully laid out for guests to relax and feel at home.

The owners used Drummonds’ design service to make the best use of space and to adapt the existing plumbing connections with minimal additional work.

“We originally installed Drummonds for the downstairs loo and, having lived with the products for a few weeks, we knew we wanted to use Drummonds elsewhere in the house too. The quality is just the best available and you can feel it every time you use it.”
