Classic Georgian House |

Toronto, Canada

Located in Toronto and built in 1925, this grand Georgian house boasts six bedrooms and six bathrooms. When our clients purchased the house, major renovations were in order, especially the bathrooms. The decision to renovate the bathrooms came with the decision to completely renovate the house from top to bottom whilst honoring its history. The home still possesses all the elements of a classic Georgian style: balanced proportions and symmetry exemplified by the double-hung windows and beautiful crown mouldings.

The main source of inspiration for this house is Ballyfin castle in Ireland, early 19th century architectural splendour and now 5-star resort, visited by the client and his family in 2016. They were so taken by the luxury, romance and elegance of this early 19th century that, when returning to their new home, they wanted to recreate similar design schemes. It is also at Ballyfin that they discovered Drummonds products and knew they would use the brand for their bathrooms. The client states the following: “We knew that, whenever we renovated that Drummonds would be our fixtures of choice. When the time came to choose… It went without saying. Drummonds. We never did visit the NYC showroom. We didn’t need to.”

The master bathroom is composed of two areas: a completely marble walk-in room fitted with two showers and a free-standing bathtub, and the other a small room with a custom vanity and loo. The walk-in shower room was designed floor to ceiling using book-matched Bianca Carrara marble, a perfect light backdrop maximising the beauty of the Morar slipper bath. This freestanding tub, designed by a KLC student for Drummonds, gives a dramatic feel to the space thanks to its original shape and to the way it stands alone in the room. Its hand-polished finish beautifully reflects the marble and the polished nickel of the Shamrock shower heads. This is what the client adds about the choice of bath: “I will say choosing our bathtub was by far the most exciting and excruciating decision. Our bathroom had space constraints, but we both wanted a Drummonds tub. The one we chose feels like it was hand made just for the room, and for us.”

The showers, fitted with Shamrock shower rose, sit just a few feet away from the tub. With its extraordinary shape based on a cloverleaf, the Shamrock shower rose is another statement piece bringing a sense of grandeur to this bathroom.  When talking about it, the client declared: “As for the clover leaf shower heads…  I feel the joy and the luck of the Irish every morning! It is simply the most wonderful way to start any morning”.

The custom cabinetry is fitted with Mull Classic 3-hole mixers in polished nickel. The countertops are either White Arabescato Marble or Black Marquina Marble. The luscious veining on the marble is reflected in the finish of the fixtures and matching superbly with the marble floors.

One bathroom is designed with hand-flocked wallpaper inset into panels, an elegant accent to the dark cabinet and black and white marble flooring. The chandelier is replicated by the wallpaper’s intricate patterns.

For the powder room, the family chose the single Crake Vanity in elegant Arabescato marble. The Crake possesses classic polished nickel legs and a storage shelf which contrasts nicely against the high back of the marble vanity.

When asked about their opinion on the project’s final result, the client’s wife replied:  “We knew the final product would be incredible. We knew the bathrooms would be gorgeous. However, the master bathroom has far surpassed even our expectations.”
