When a new season starts, we always feel like we need to bring a fresh energy to our homes. This is especially the case with summer where we want to translate these special summery vibes indoors, either by redecorating the interiors or planning a complete makeover. Our focal point will naturally be bathrooms, however some of our tips can be applicable to other living spaces.
Nautical accents
Summer and the sea are two peas in a pod so concentrate on having some nautical touches in your bathroom to feel like you’re by the seashore. There are many ways to bring the fresh sea breeze into your decor. The most obvious is opting for blue and white : either change the whole color scheme (painted wooden panels nodding to typically English beach houses, cottages and houses) or subtly incorporate these hues with accessories (new towels for instance) if you’re simply redecorating.
The other option is to dress up your bathroom with nautical patterns. Think shells, boats or fish.
Last but not least, why not bring the sea to you? We’re thinking : adding shells and pebbles that have been hand-picked from beaches around the world, or simply inserting a rope in a glass bottle.
Incorporating greenery
Another way to adopt summer style is by bringing nature inside so as to feel that you’re still outdoors. Plants are perfect to bring color to your space but they also represent vitality and renewal. What’s more, they’re known to release oxygen so they will turn your bathroom into a relaxed oasis. Tropical plants, such as ferns and spider plants, survive especially well in bathrooms as they thrive in warm and humid air.
For those who don’t have a green thumb, you can also opt for faux flowers or branches of hassle-free plants like eucalyptus, which can last you many more days than florists-bought bouquets. Even the smallest countertop will look more summery with a floral touch.
Wicker power
Nothing says summer like woven textures such as wicker. Think wicker rocking chairs or rattan baskets to store your towels and other bathroom essentials. They remind us of market totes seen in the South of France, creating a light summery feel.
Walk-in showers
If you’re ready to renovate completely your bathroom, then walk-in showers are one of your best allies. They will be a superb component to your bathroom because they create a sense of space and a refreshing atmosphere during summer.
Sunshine colours
Focus on bright colours which are synonymous with light and sunshine. Paint your window panes for a brightening result or… be tempted by a yellow bathtub, such as below, which will be the cheerful focal point of your bathroom- that’s for sure.
